_Verbatim quotes from this contractor's public reviews, each attributed to its source:_
> "Beckett is a saviour. He helped us through a tough spot when our previous contractor left us hanging. His communication is TOP TIER, and we felt in good hands the entire time. His work is impeccable and his team is impeccable."

> "Beckett Construction was fantastic from start to finish. Clayton was great to work with, came out to give us a quote and contract, and started the work as planned. Clay was transparent, providing weekly hour and material reports and finishing earlier than expected. The group is very knowledgable and experienced. Thank you! Hope to use you in the near future"

> "We hired Beckett Construction to finish our basement. Our 100 year old semi had been wet and mouldy for as long as we had owned it and the time came. We underpinned the basement then hired Clayton and his team to finish (we later found out that Clayton uses the same underpinner as we hired so that was reassuring). Our basement was about 600 sq/ft and we started the project with some pretty specific requests and budget constraints that we raised with Clayton from the start and he continued to remember through the duration of the project. Not only allowing us to finish our basement to a level above anything we had ever imagined, but in the process, we also updated the flooring throughout, the kitchen cabinet faces, and repainted the entire house including some pretty complicated plaster lath repairs that saved us from having to redo the entire upper levels drywall along some significant structural work and floor leveling that we did not anticipate. Throughout the project, Clayton was extremely professional and responsive. We live out of town so we loved that he would share social media stories of our project daily so we could keep track. He provided us with detailed cost analysis throughout the entire project and gave us regular options to save money or find better solutions which also allowed us to get even more additional work added in like a new roof. I have renovated a couple of houses in the past and this was without question the best experience and result to date. We will not only recommend Clayton highly to anyone who asks but we will only use him for future projects. His team is very thoughtful and cares about the end product which I find to be rare among contractors in Toronto and very reassuring. Their work is spectacular as you will see from the photos i have included."

## Before you hire an architect
_What to check when choosing this kind of trade (general guidance, not a claim about this business):_
- Trade licensing in Canada is set by each province or territory. Electrical, gas and plumbing are licensed trades almost everywhere (for example ESA for electrical and TSSA for gas in Ontario), so check your provincial regulator that the contractor is certified for the work before you hire.
- A construction lien is a real risk: in every province an unpaid subcontractor or supplier can register a lien against your home even if you already paid the main contractor. Hold back the statutory amount (commonly around 10%) and get signed lien waivers as you pay.
- Ask to see a portfolio of completed work like yours, plus recent references you can contact.
- Check the credentials and registrations that matter for this work, and that they are current.
- Get a written, itemized quote with scope, assumptions and a staged payment schedule.
