> "We had our rain gutters done by the Company called Docteur Gouttiere. The owner Ralph Villeneuve is a wonderful customer service man! He came to our house with a brochure, and answered all of our questions concerning the job on our house. Ralph then returned as scheduled and spent the day getting the job done well! He was very polite, friendly and professional in completing a job on our rain gutters along with a few problems that came up at the time! He was tidy as he did the job always cleaning up after the job was completed. I would recommend this Company to everyone who needs their rain gutters well and also looks nice! We would rate his work as a 10 out of 10!!! Thank you very much for this service of Renoquotes! I will definitely come back to this site again in the future! Lesley M. Laval"

## Before you hire a builder
_What to check when choosing this kind of trade (general guidance, not a claim about this business):_
- Never pay a large deposit up front. Agree a staged payment schedule tied to completed milestones, and hold a small retention until snagging is done.
- Get it in writing: an itemised quote with scope, materials, start and finish dates, and how any changes (variations) will be priced.
- Be wary of a cash-only price or pressure to start tomorrow. Both are red flags for an unaccountable job.
- Trade licensing in Canada is set by each province or territory. Electrical, gas and plumbing are licensed trades almost everywhere (for example ESA for electrical and TSSA for gas in Ontario), so check your provincial regulator that the contractor is certified for the work before you hire.
- A construction lien is a real risk: in every province an unpaid subcontractor or supplier can register a lien against your home even if you already paid the main contractor. Hold back the statutory amount (commonly around 10%) and get signed lien waivers as you pay.
