> "I hired Edward and his crew to finish the work on my house from a large addition. They demolished a 40ft wall, a brick veneer 12ft long fireplace, including jack-hammering an unexpected solid concrete block that ran underneath the fireplace ledge. They re-framed where required, and dry-walled ceilings, walls in the basement and laundry room. I asked for resilient channel with firecode drywall for the ceilings and the work was done well. They parged and painted all the walls and ceilings. Edward was able to put me in touch with his sub contractors for the plumbing and electrical work that was required and coordinated with them. Edward is a great communicator and I found his approach to be very collaborative and solutions focused. He clearly communicated about changes in scope and resulting cost changes and presented the options in a straightforward way. Edward's work was so good that I had him come back for a second project, which was repainting and trimming in the main floor and additional painting and trim work in the basement. Edward was always friendly and reasonable with me, which I really appreciated. He was willing to make minor corrections where required. I was really impressed by his team's work ethic and ability to get a lot of work done, which meant minimal disruption for my family."

## Before you hire an HVAC contractor
_What to check when choosing this kind of trade (general guidance, not a claim about this business):_
- Trade licensing in Canada is set by each province or territory. Electrical, gas and plumbing are licensed trades almost everywhere (for example ESA for electrical and TSSA for gas in Ontario), so check your provincial regulator that the contractor is certified for the work before you hire.
- A construction lien is a real risk: in every province an unpaid subcontractor or supplier can register a lien against your home even if you already paid the main contractor. Hold back the statutory amount (commonly around 10%) and get signed lien waivers as you pay.
- Confirm they cover your area and can actually come out in your timeframe before anything else.
- Read recent reviews for reliability and turning up on time, not only the quality of the work.
- Agree the call-out fee up front, and be wary of large upfront deposits for an emergency job.
