## About
We take our work seriously and our clients personally. Every renovation, addition, and new build we take on is thoughtfully done to feel like it has always been part of the home. Hofmann Construction was founded in 2007 by Red Seal Certified Carpenter Paul Hofmann. After completing his apprenticeship with one of Victoria’s top custom home builders, Paul gained experience working across Canada and internationally, including Germany, Australia, and New Zealand. He brought that experience back home to Victoria and built the company around a simple approach: do things right the first time and treat people with honesty and respect. Today, Hofmann Construction is made up of journeyman carpenters, certified apprentices, and a trusted group of skilled subtrades who share that same mindset. Paul stays closely involved in every project, from the first conversation through to the final walkthrough, ensuring quality and consistency every step of the way. We specialize in full home renovations, home additions, and custom new builds, serving homeowners across Greater Victoria and the Saanich Peninsula. If you’re thinking about a project, we would be happy to connect and hear more about it.

## Before you hire a builder
_What to check when choosing this kind of trade (general guidance, not a claim about this business):_
- Never pay a large deposit up front. Agree a staged payment schedule tied to completed milestones, and hold a small retention until snagging is done.
- Get it in writing: an itemized quote with scope, materials, start and finish dates, and how any changes (variations) will be priced.
- Be wary of a cash-only price or pressure to start tomorrow. Both are red flags for an unaccountable job.
- Trade licensing in Canada is set by each province or territory. Electrical, gas and plumbing are licensed trades almost everywhere (for example ESA for electrical and TSSA for gas in Ontario), so check your provincial regulator that the contractor is certified for the work before you hire.
- A construction lien is a real risk: in every province an unpaid subcontractor or supplier can register a lien against your home even if you already paid the main contractor. Hold back the statutory amount (commonly around 10%) and get signed lien waivers as you pay.
