> "We would definitely use Quality Restorations again based on our 2 projects we have done with them. The trades they use are very experienced people who are conscientious and also good problem solvers which is essential when dealing with an old home. The quality of the completed work is excellent. This latest project was to build a new addition to an existing 80+ year old home to accommodate a new main floor full bathroom and an extension to the existing basement. This required hand excavation in order to build this new addition. The entire project took about 5 months. They took care to protect the existing premises and to minimize dust. All in all, a very satisfying result."

## Before you hire a plumber
_What to check when choosing this kind of trade (general guidance, not a claim about this business):_
- Agree the call-out fee, the hourly or fixed rate, and whether parts are charged on top, in writing, before an emergency plumber starts. Out-of-hours overcharging and 'while I'm here' add-ons are common complaints.
- Be wary of a plumber who, on a first visit, says your whole system or boiler must be replaced. Get a second opinion and an itemized quote (parts and labour separately) before agreeing to major work.
- Gas work is licensed separately from general plumbing in every province. Make sure anyone working on a gas appliance or gas line holds the gas certification your province requires, and ask for proof of that certification before they start.
- Trade licensing in Canada is set by each province or territory. Electrical, gas and plumbing are licensed trades almost everywhere (for example ESA for electrical and TSSA for gas in Ontario), so check your provincial regulator that the contractor is certified for the work before you hire.
- A construction lien is a real risk: in every province an unpaid subcontractor or supplier can register a lien against your home even if you already paid the main contractor. Hold back the statutory amount (commonly around 10%) and get signed lien waivers as you pay.
