- A rooftop solar PV install is electrical work: it needs an electrical permit and inspection (ESA in Ontario, Technical Safety BC in BC) and a licensed electrical contractor to make the connection. Verify the contractor licence on the regulator's register.
- Grid-connected systems need a connection/net-metering agreement with your local utility: confirm the installer arranges it and that the system is sized to your roof and load.
- Roof condition and structural load matter: ask whether the roof can carry the array and whether penetrations are properly flashed and warrantied.
- Get the equipment and workmanship warranties in writing, and check liability insurance and a current WCB/WSIB clearance for at-height work.
