  • Confirm they cover your area and can actually come out in your timeframe before anything else.
  • Read recent reviews for reliability and turning up on time, not only the quality of the work.
  • Agree the call-out fee up front, and be wary of large upfront deposits for an emergency job.

  • Technicians who handle refrigerant must hold an ozone-depletion / refrigerant-handling certificate under federal environmental rules: confirm it before they install or charge an air conditioner or heat pump.
  • Membership of HRAI (Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada) is a voluntary industry credential: verify it alongside the statutory gas and refrigerant licensing.
  • Confirm liability insurance, a current WCB/WSIB clearance, and that any required permit and inspection are arranged.

  • Can't show a refrigerant-handling certificate yet plans to install or charge an AC or heat pump.
