About Commonhouse Design

Formerly John Gower Design, Commonhouse Design was formed in 2023 when Phil Tripp joined John Gower as a partner. At Commonhouse Design we believe good home design can be a truly transformative force in peoples’ lives and contribute to the greater good of the planet. We have a particular interest in sustainable principles and techniques to create enduring and beautiful homes that live lightly on the earth. Home design, at its best, considers the unique opportunities of each site while responding to the distinctive needs and desires of each client. Our design process is “relationship-based”, seeking to optimize and celebrate the many ways our homes support the significant aspects of our lives, and builds on our particular skill of listening to our clients and translating their wishes and requirements into thoughtful design decisions. We take the time and care to make sure that people end up with the home they want and need.
